Seriously, though, big improvement. Why can't you do that all the time? It's not that difficult, after all.
To answer your initial question, they're forum ranks. Some are assigned specifically, by account. If you don't have an assigned rank, it's based on postcount. At certain post levels, determined by a board admin, you get a new forum rank, also set by a board admin. _________________ If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats. |

They're titles. They're subject to my random whims and flights of fancy. They're added and changed as inspiration and boredom strike me.

What's the source and inspiration for that, if you don't mind my asking? _________________ Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power. |

I'll answer that, if you give me (and let me keep forever) the forum title of "Mirthful Rodent". Also mandatory is that this title be given to NO ONE else. _________________ If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats. |

Ranks are also susceptible to bribery. XD _________________ Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power. |

I belIeve the quote is from "Illusions" by Richard Bach. Of course, since you seemed to have already bribed the rat, I doubt you will get it back. _________________ Things are clearing now ... coming into focus .. .the fog is lifting ... shapes are forming .... ahh ... err ... make it unclear... Correct! It's from the fictional text "The Messiah's Handbook" referenced in Bach's book "Illusions". I actually PM'd the info to Billiam before he changed my forum rank, so I'm looking on that change as an act of beneficence. _________________ If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats. |

I think Bach did release another book by that name. Initially, though, it's said to be in a book that was fictional at the time. _________________ If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats. |

Interesting. You didn't answer the second part of the question, though -- what's the inspiration for using it as a signature?
And what's with this Billiam stuff? _________________ Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power. |

Oh. Inspiration. Friend of mine and I were discussing why he was recently turned down for a job he interviewed for. Something about his ability to form connections and relationships with end-users. He made the comment about himself that he was too alien, and that he "was abstracting [him]self too much." Somewhere in the course of this conversation (it took place over several hours, by email), I picked up my copy of Illusions, opened it up, and found that quote staring at me. I sent it to him, because it seemed relevant to the issue.
Why'd I use it here? Hell, who knows? I sure don't.
Why Billiam? It's just a combination of Bill and William. The two both get brought up in my so-called "mind" when I see your forum name, "WildBill". It has both the "W" and the "B". And I tend to have private names for a lot of people I know. One friend, named Becky, also goes by Seraphina. I occasionally refer to her (internally) as "Beckiphena". _________________ If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats. |

Interesting. Was just curious, it's hardly the oddest nickname I've acquired. _________________ Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power. |

Me too. Some asshole went and called me "LaughingRat" at some point, and I haven't been able to shake that name since. _________________ If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats. |

Actually, most of my nicknames are quite tame -- just remarkably odd. The one that got me the most odd looks was "Daddy", from a girl about a year younger than I was. _________________ Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power. |
