I'm taking it quite seriously. Except for when I'm joking around about it.
It's the reason for becoming more fitness conscious and for the changes in diet I mentioned. In the first six months after being diagnosed, I brought my A1c down to within the normal range for a NON-diabetic. I asked my doctor to halve the dosage of the one medication I'm on at that point, and he agreed. It resulted in some wild blood glucose variations for a while, but it's steady again, and another A1c run two months after cutting the dosage showed a level even lower than the previous one. I have no doubt I'll be able to get off the medication completely within a year.
I'm lucky, I guess, for two reasons. First, mine is pretty pretty mild. I'm beyond the "pre-diabetic" stage, but my glucose levels aren't phenomenally high. Second, it was caught early, probably due to the huge number of tests I was undergoing at the time to find out what was wrong with me. Diabetes is just one of the things they found.
Speaking of that, if your wife is diabetic and hasn't had a sleep study to check for sleep apnea, you might want to see about having that done. There's a VERY close correlation between the two. If she has sleep apnea, treatment for it may help in dealing with her diabetes.
Oh, and be sure to check out Glucose Man and Meter Boy. I want a utility belt like that for my glucose meter!

While I hate taking the hook, the line, the sinker, and about half the boat I'm actually relieved.
Although, honestly, the medical profession is still out on the verdict on this one. Many people on it are getting very good results.
However, the Atkin's Diet isn't approved for diabetics by the ADA.
If you define 'results' as 'lost weight' then yes, it can work.
If you define 'results' as 'health' then it is a dismal failure.
You see, I could chain you up in my basement and not feed you for two weeks and you would get results similar to that of the Atkins diet. The goal should always be health with lost weight being the result.
You may be aware of that already - this is something I'm somewhat passionate about because I see so many people harming themselves.

Again, the verdict hasn't been rendered on that yet. Early testing shows the Atkin's diet may actually reduce the chances for heart disease and heart attack.

LOL! Of course I was aware of that! I remember your rant fromway back on the Crackaz boards. Why do you think I posted my comment in the first place?
Wait a minute.... Did I just troll you (successfully, I might add), and do it without you even noticing?
