I thought I was supposed to have more free time during the summer :( Who told you that?

I thought I was supposed to have more free time during the summer :( Who told you that? I assumed that since school was out, and previously school took up the majority of the day, that I should have more free time. School + Freetime + Sleep vs. Freetime + Sleep

Mad_Gerbil- 06-28-2006

Me? I'm waiting for peeps to set up Diablo times. I've tried 1/2 dozen times already and nobody shows. Ah..to be young again.

I assumed that since school was out, and previously school took up the majority of the day, that I should have more free time. School + Freetime + Sleep vs. Freetime + Sleep Silly lagomorph. It's a basic paradoxical truth that more free time invariably means LESS free time. My parents, for example, are busier now that they're retired than they EVER were while working. Me? I'm waiting for peeps to set up Diablo times. I've tried 1/2 dozen times already and nobody shows. I've been pretty bad on that score myself. And I have so far to go to catch up now. I'll see if I can work on it, but (and I'm actually embarassed to admit this) I'm actually becoming a bit of a fitness junky.

I'll see if I can work on it, but (and I'm actually embarassed to admit this) I'm actually becoming a bit of a fitness junky. I jog 3-4 times a week. I go to the gym. I drink spinach shakes for breakfast. I'm with you there - JUST DO IT!

LaughingRat- 06-28-2006

Well, that's more than I do, but it's growing on me. But... spinach shakes? BLEAH! Even though I can't have regular shakes any more, I'd NEVER consider substituting a SPINACH shake. Gross!

Well, that's more than I do, but it's growing on me. But... spinach shakes? BLEAH! Even though I can't have regular shakes any more, I'd NEVER consider substituting a SPINACH shake. Gross! An important part of health is getting the nutrition your body needs while forcing the crap out of your diet. Spinach Shake Two nice handfuls of pre-washed spinach. 1 banana 8-12 oz of soy milk. Blend until smooth. The mixture is suprisingly sweet and very easy to get down. Is it my favorite breakfast - no - that would be Eggs Bennedict. However, the spinach is really good for me and even before I leave the house in the morning I've had a healthy serving of vegetables. My brother takes it further - he blends spinach, tomato, brocolli, green beans and so forth so before he leaves the house in the morning he's had more vegatables than most people get in 3 days. I'd recommend reading Dr. Furhman's book "Eat to Live" http://drfuhrman.com/ Once you feel like you feel when you get tons of good veggies every day you'll not want to go back. Blending is a good way to down a wallop of the stuff without even having to taste it.

No way, man. I'm on the Atkin's diet.

Mad_Gerbil- 06-29-2006

No way, man. I'm on the Atkin's diet. You must be kidding. That diet is very harmful - it is the opposite of what your body needs.

While I hate taking the hook, the line, the sinker, and about half the boat I'm actually relieved. Although, honestly, the medical profession is still out on the verdict on this one. Many people on it are getting very good results. However, the Atkin's Diet isn't approved for diabetics by the ADA.

Takes one to know one eh?

You're diabetic? YOU, calling me a dork is really quite funny. Takes one to know one eh? I am now. Found out late last year. TWO FREAKIN' DAYS before Thanksgiving, even. Of course, I hadn't been through the education class by Thanksgiving, so I didn't know I shouldn't have the chocolate bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Yeah, I'm sticking to that story. And *I* didn't call you a dork. I'm just a mod, I can't make or name forums. Someone else had to name that forum that way.

LOL Since you're a newbie regarding diabetes I advise taking it seriously. Although an occasional treat at a holiday is probably okay. My wife has had diabetes for about 10 years now. But for the longest time never took it seriously. Took meds when she thought of it , that sort of thing. Last year, she got a foot infection that refused to go away for 5 months, plus did enough damage too her eyes that she no longer can drive at night. At one point her sugar was up to over 400. The doctor said he wondered how come she didn't have a heart attack or kidney damage. She is a type 2 diabetic but pills no longer work for her so she is on insulin now. twice a day. You can learn to live with diabetes, but ignoring it for any length of time can result in infections leading to amputation, blindness, heart attack, even death. Her aunt died in her mid 50's due to complications from diabetes. Don't mean to be a downer here, but some people when they get diabetes refuse to admit it, as diabetes really doesn't have a lot of symptoms at first. I feel fine! is a common refrain. If you keep it under control you can lead a pretty much normal life, just without all the sugery junk food, which really isn't good for you anyway.
