Hey Gerbs...I'm reasonable, right? I'm your right hand man This contradicts itself. Anyone who is Gerb's right-paw man is, by definition, NOT reasonable. when do you find the time to type all that stuff gerb i meen omg ?!?!?!!??!?!?! i mean for me its school then homework and couple hours of computer i meen omg!!!! If you reduced the number of times you say "OMG!!!" and cut your exclamation point and question mark usage in half, you'd probably save several hours a day. Weren't we talking just a couple days back about how you hate cellphones and are happy with your landline? What made you even consider the alternative? It was actually that conversation that got me thinking about it. So far, i'm not overly impressed by the price : feature ratio for the services I've checked out.

Could this possibly be why I had trouble setting up a game server? I'm also with verizon. But I was given a static IP from the start, no extra charge or anything. It depends upon what port the game was using. Age of Empires doesn't use port 80, I doubt your game does either.

you are deffinently not his right hand man its me or Fixation duhh. ... errr... ... FIREBOLTED!!!!!!! Alrighty then. This contradicts itself. Anyone who is Gerb's right-paw man is, by definition, NOT reasonable. Point granted. :D Gerbs: Awesome! Since its being brought up, how many WPM's can you hit? I'm trying to get a job with Data Entry type stuff, I can do 80 on the WPM tests with all the quotations, odd words, and punctuation. Normal typing I'm up around 100 WPM. I don't want to get into a contest, I'm just curious what someone with awesome mad skillz can do so I know when I'm getting somewhere.

WildBill- 03-23-2006

I don't claim mad skills, but I can do about 80WPM on normal text with an error every couple hundred words. When I'm typing code I get about half that 'cause of all the funky characters. Sounds like you're faster than me. XD

What I don't understand is why all these ISPs charge so much extra for a static IP. I've looked at the namespace records, they're not doing it for lack of available addresses. And it's not like it's hard to always give the same modem the same IP address. I guess it's likely purely for profit, which probably shouldn't surprise me. It takes slightly more work to give a host a static IP. You'd need to have someone remove an address from the DHCP pool and assign it to whereever it needs to go. I don't think it's too hard or too time consuming, although I've never tried on a network any bigger than 3 or so computers. I could understand paying once for a setup fee or something, but it shouldn't be more per month. The IP I have is for the most part static, although it has changed in the past. and for the server he'll hopfully put more than 1 topic lick maby fun stuff insted of just general disscusion.
